Retail Alliance awarded Village Bicycles, in Newport News, with the Lifetime Achievement Award last week at the Retailer of the Year Awards at the Virginia Air and Space Science Center.
Village Bicycles has been in Hilton Village for 45 years and Walter Gardner has owned it for the past 16 years.

“I am overwhelmed by the award. It’s great to be acknowledged by other professionals and other small businesses,” he said.
Nothing Bundt Cakes, which started in Newport News and has locations in Virginia Beach, earned Retailer of the Year.
Peer choice awards were given to the following Peninsula retail businesses.
Dodd RV of the Peninsula for automotive.
The Virginia Beer Company for beverage.
Once Up a Child Newport News for clothing and accessories.
The entertainment and recreation awards were given to Jersey’s Cards and Comics, Village Bicycles and Axe Republic.
Langley Federal Credit Union for financial services.
The Christmas Store for gifts and goods.
Lackey Clinic and Jim White Fitness and Nutrition Studies for health, fitness and personal care.
The home and garden award was given to Ace Peninsula Hardware. They also earned excellence in retail for the retail stores category.

The non-profit award was given to Peninsula Women’s Network and York County Chamber of Commerce.
Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home for professional and other services.
Bell Tower Real Estate Team for real estate.
Nothing Bundt Cakes for restaurants and food.
The Rising Star award was giving to Axe Republic.
