MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 75-year-old Florida man is facing serious criminal charges after authorities say his wife was attacked inside their apartment while she was sleeping.

Pratapsinh K. Thakor was taken into custody following the alleged domestic violence incident and charged with attempted felony murder causing injury and domestic battery causing harm, according to court records.

The incident unfolded in the early morning hours of Sept. 1, when deputies with the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office responded to the couple’s apartment in the 1400 block of Northeast Miami Gardens Drive.

According to a probable cause affidavit, investigators believe the attack began inside the couple’s bedroom.

Husband Allegedly Attacked Wife While She Slept

Authorities allege that Thakor entered the bedroom without being provoked and began stabbing his wife in the back while she was asleep.

The woman eventually woke up and reportedly pleaded with her husband to stop. Instead, investigators say the confrontation continued. According to the affidavit, the victim fought back and managed to wrestle the knife away from Thakor.

Even after he was disarmed, however, police allege that Thakor continued attacking his wife, repeatedly punching her with a closed fist. The woman was able to get away from him long enough to contact emergency services.

She called 911 and reported the attack, prompting first responders to rush to the apartment.

First Responders Find Woman Outside Apartment

When emergency personnel arrived, they reportedly found the woman on the ground outside the apartment. Investigators said Thakor was nearby and was allegedly holding the victim by her hair when first responders reached the scene.

The woman was quickly taken for emergency medical treatment as authorities began investigating what had happened inside the apartment.

She was transported to Florida Aventura HCA Trauma Hospital, where medical personnel treated her for multiple injuries. According to the probable cause affidavit, doctors identified a punctured lung, two lacerations to the left side of her back, a laceration to her left arm and a bloody mouth.

A suspected lethal cutting instrument was also recovered at the scene, according to investigators.

Victim Suffers Serious Injuries

The injuries described in the affidavit indicate that the alleged attack was potentially life-threatening.

A punctured lung can require urgent medical treatment, while the additional wounds to the woman’s back and arm added to the seriousness of the incident.

Authorities have not publicly disclosed further details about her condition beyond the injuries listed in the affidavit.

The investigation is continuing as detectives work to establish exactly what happened inside the apartment and what led to the confrontation.

At this stage, authorities have also not publicly identified a possible motive for the alleged attack.

Police Say Husband Denied Involvement

After Thakor was taken into custody, investigators said he made an unsolicited statement in which he denied having any involvement in the attack.

That denial is now part of a case in which authorities say physical evidence and the victim’s account point toward an alleged violent confrontation inside the couple’s home.

Thakor was transported to the sheriff’s Intracoastal District Station before being booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, according to records.

The case remains pending, and the allegations against Thakor have not been proven in court.

Judge Orders Thakor Held Without Bond

Thakor appeared before a judge during a Wednesday bond hearing. The judge ordered him to remain in custody without bond, meaning he will continue to be held while the criminal proceedings move forward.

It was not immediately clear when Thakor was scheduled for his next court appearance.

The charges he faces are serious, with prosecutors accusing him of an attack that allegedly began while his wife was asleep and escalated into repeated violence.

For now, the investigation remains ongoing, while the victim recovers from the injuries authorities say she suffered during the alleged attack.

The case also highlights the dangers that can arise in domestic violence situations, particularly when an alleged confrontation escalates inside a home with little warning.
