LAS VEGAS, Nev. — A family was killed inside a Las Vegas apartment after a confrontation between a 29-year-old man and his girlfriend allegedly escalated into a shooting, according to police.
Juan Orona is accused of killing his girlfriend, 41-year-old Nohani Flores-Osuna, along with her 16-year-old daughter, Maiya Deleon Flores, and 7-year-old son, Noah Morales Flores, on Sept. 1.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said it received a report at approximately 7:10 p.m. from Orona himself.
Police said the man identified himself and reported that he had shot his girlfriend and her two children. He then told authorities he was at the Southeast Area Command and wanted to surrender.
The shooting was reported at an apartment in the 5100 block of O’Bannon Drive.
Police Say Jealousy Triggered Confrontation
According to the arrest report, Orona had become upset earlier in the day after noticing Flores-Osuna’s vehicle at the same location as a vehicle belonging to her former boyfriend.
The couple had reportedly been together for three to six months, and investigators said Orona had helped Flores-Osuna obtain the apartment and had paid the rent.
Later, Orona confronted Flores-Osuna about an alleged relationship with another man identified in the report as Henry.
Police said Flores-Osuna acknowledged having a sexual relationship with Henry and allegedly told Orona that Henry was better in bed. Investigators say Orona told them that after hearing that statement, he “blacked out.”
What happened next left three people dead.
Orona Says He Does Not Remember the Shooting
Orona reportedly told investigators that he kept a Glock 9mm handgun for protection, believing Flores-Osuna’s former boyfriend could potentially come to the apartment and hurt him.
When detectives questioned him about the killings, police said Orona did not deny firing the gun but claimed he could not remember exactly how the shooting unfolded.
He reportedly remembered Flores-Osuna and the children either yelling at him or moving toward him during the alleged blackout, but he could not provide investigators with additional details.
Police later recovered 10 spent 9mm cartridge cases from the scene. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the events immediately preceding it.
Family Members Say Orona Lost Control
The arrest report also states that Orona allegedly made admissions to family members after the shooting. According to investigators, he told relatives that he had lost control of himself after confronting Flores-Osuna.
Those statements, combined with his account to police, are now part of the investigation as prosecutors prepare the case against him. Authorities have not indicated that the victims were armed or that there was any confirmed threat against Orona at the time of the shooting.
Man Faces Three Murder Charges
Orona faces three counts of murder with a deadly weapon, one for each victim, along with a charge of firing a gun inside an occupied structure. He is currently being held without bail.
The victims’ deaths have left a family and community facing the devastating aftermath of a shooting that police say followed an argument over infidelity and jealousy.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities will ultimately have to establish what happened inside the apartment and whether Orona’s claim that he “blacked out” affects the legal proceedings.
For now, police allege that a confrontation between two adults ended with the deaths of a mother and her two children, turning an apparent relationship dispute into a triple homicide.
