DEARBORN, Mich. — A flooded residential street turned into a heated confrontation after a woman trying to get around standing water drove her SUV onto an elderly homeowner’s property during a powerful late-summer storm.

The incident happened on Sept. 3 in Dearborn, as heavy rainfall created significant flooding on the residential road. According to FOX 2 Detroit, the woman, identified only as Lacie, drove along the sidewalk and across neighboring lawns before continuing onto the homeowner’s grass.

The homeowner was outside when he noticed the vehicle approaching his property. He said he shouted at the driver to return to the road, but the SUV continued moving toward him.

“Telling her no and she kept coming. She almost hit me,” he told the outlet.

Ring doorbell footage captured the SUV traveling across the property before stopping partially on the man’s lawn.

Heated Exchange Erupts Over the Lawn

The homeowner became angry as the situation unfolded, particularly because he was concerned the vehicle could damage his property.

“Get off my lawn, F–k you,” the man shouted after Lacie rolled down her window.

The confrontation quickly escalated, with both people exchanging angry words. At one point, the driver told the homeowner, “You’re about to die.”

The statement became one of the most controversial moments of the confrontation, drawing attention after the video circulated online.

The homeowner said the incident was especially difficult because he has Parkinson’s disease, a condition that affects his motor skills and can make stressful situations more difficult for him to manage.

“I have Parkinson’s disease,” he told. “When I get upset, I start shaking, hard to concentrate and communicating with people. I get agitated easily, and it’s all part of the disease, and her driving down the sidewalk like that did not help the situation.”

He also said he wanted the confrontation documented because the vehicle had crossed onto his property and he was concerned he might need to make a claim if damage occurred.

Driver Explains ‘About to Die’ Comment

Lacie later acknowledged that she told the homeowner he was “about to die,” but disputed the interpretation that she had threatened him. She said the words were meant as a warning for the elderly man to calm down and be careful because of his age.

“Never once threatened his life,” she told.

According to Lacie, both people were yelling over each other during the confrontation, and she said the comment was taken out of context.

“We were yelling over each other and every time he stopped yelling, those words ‘you’re about to die’ came out. It was not nice at all,” she said.

She explained that she meant he was elderly and needed to calm down rather than suggesting she intended to harm him. Lacie also said she would be willing to have a more civil conversation with the homeowner, particularly because of his age and health.

“Honestly, he’s elderly, so I would give him that grace,” she said.

Lawn Left With Ruts After Storm Detour

Although the confrontation became intense, the physical damage to the property appeared to be limited. The SUV’s tires left ruts in the homeowner’s lawn, but he said there was no other significant damage to his property. The homeowner also addressed comments on social media suggesting the confrontation had a racial element.

“I know a lot of the comments on Instagram were racial, and I did not appreciate that,” he said. “Had nothing to do with race.”

Instead, he described the encounter as a misunderstanding between two people during a stressful situation.

“I have no ill will toward this person. I forgive her. No damage was done to my property other than the rut in the grass and that can be fixed,” he added.

Social Media Users Side With Homeowner

The confrontation quickly sparked strong reactions online, with many social media users criticizing the driver for using private lawns as an alternative route through the flooded neighborhood.

One commenter wrote, “Not his fault…. people are rude AF.” Another argued that the driver should never have driven through someone else’s yard simply because the road was flooded.

A third commenter went even further, telling the homeowner not to apologize and saying the driver should consider herself fortunate that the situation did not escalate further.

What do you think about the driver using the lawns to get around the flooded street? Was the homeowner justified in confronting her? Share your thoughts in the comments.
