Brooklyn, NY — A 4-year-old boy was allegedly snatched away from his grandmother outside a McDonald’s in Crown Heights this week, but the frightening incident ended when the child’s off-duty NYPD officer mother stepped in and got him back, according to authorities and law enforcement sources.

The incident unfolded around 5 p.m. Monday outside the fast-food restaurant on Eastern Parkway near Utica Avenue, police said.

The boy had been with his 66-year-old grandmother when an unknown woman allegedly approached and grabbed the child away from her.

According to authorities and sources, the woman then attempted to cross the street with the young boy, turning a disturbing encounter into an apparent kidnapping attempt.

But she did not get far.

Off-duty cop mom manages to rescue her son

The boy’s mother, who works as an NYPD officer and was off duty at the time, quickly intervened. Sources said she managed to grab her son back from the woman before the suspect could leave the area with him.

The woman then fled without the child, according to police. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident. The quick intervention by the boy’s mother brought the encounter to an end before the child was taken any farther, authorities said.

While the boy was safely reunited with his family, investigators were left searching for the woman who allegedly attempted to take him.

Police release description of suspect

The NYPD is now seeking the public’s help in identifying and locating the suspect.

Surveillance images captured the woman during the incident and were being used by investigators as they worked to determine her identity and whereabouts.

According to police, the suspect was seen wearing a white shirt, black shorts and black sandals. Authorities are asking anyone who may recognize the woman or have information about the incident to come forward.

The case remains under investigation, and police are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged attempted kidnapping.

The investigation comes after what authorities described as a frightening encounter involving a very young child and his grandmother in a busy Brooklyn neighborhood.

For the family, however, the situation ended with the child safely back with his mother after she intervened.

Investigators are still looking for the woman seen in the surveillance images, and any information from the public could help police identify her. The NYPD has not indicated that the suspect was known to the child or his family.
