Macon, Georgia — Twelve people, including several teenagers, were shot after a birthday party gathering spilled into a local park and an argument between two groups escalated into gunfire Saturday night, according to authorities and local reports.

The shooting happened around midnight at Carolyn Crayton Park, where a large crowd had gathered after a birthday celebration at a nearby Airbnb was brought to an end. Two of the wounded victims, both teenage boys, were left in critical condition, while the other 10 victims were reported to be in stable condition.

The chaotic gathering has now triggered an investigation involving local authorities and the FBI.

Birthday Party Moves From Airbnb to Park

The group had reportedly been celebrating a birthday at an Airbnb before being asked to leave the property.

After leaving the rental, the group — which included high school students and other young people — moved to nearby Carolyn Crayton Park.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, a large gathering had formed at the park by around midnight. A separate group later arrived, and an argument reportedly broke out between the two groups.

The dispute quickly escalated, with gunfire erupting and multiple people being wounded.

Local reports initially indicated that 11 people had been shot, but investigators later learned that a 12th victim had also been injured.

Two Victims Remain in Critical Condition

The initial 11 victims were transported for medical treatment following the shooting.

Two of those wounded — a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old boy — were reported to be in critical condition. The remaining victims were listed in stable condition.

The 12th victim was not initially counted among those shot. According to reports, the 19-year-old later limped into a local hospital shortly after noon Sunday with a wound that was considered non-life-threatening.

Authorities have not released the names of the victims. Officials said the wounded group included four 18-year-old males, five 17-year-old males, two 18-year-old females and one 19-year-old male.

Sheriff Shocked by Number of Victims

The scale of the shooting stunned local authorities. Bibb County Sheriff David Davis told reporters he “can’t remember the last time we’ve had this many people shot at one time.”

More than a dozen shots were reportedly fired during the confrontation. Investigators also encountered evidence of the shooting at the park, with local reports indicating that spent shell casings were discovered in the area.

Authorities have not determined exactly how many firearms were used.

The number of people involved in the confrontation also remains unclear as investigators work to establish what happened before the shooting began.

No Suspects Have Been Announced

Despite the large number of people who were reportedly present at the park, no arrests have been announced.

Authorities have also not publicly identified any suspects or released information about what may have triggered the initial argument between the two groups.
