Queens, New York — Four people were injured in a violent incident inside a home in Jamaica, Queens, on Friday night, prompting police to shoot a woman who allegedly approached officers with a knife, according to the New York City Police Department.
The incident unfolded at a residence on 149th Street, where emergency responders arrived after receiving a report of a stabbing at approximately 9:38 p.m. Police said the wounded included the woman and three men. The woman was taken to a hospital in stable condition, while the injured men were transported to medical facilities for treatment.
Authorities continued investigating the circumstances surrounding the violence as officers secured the residential street.
What Happened Inside the Queens Home?
According to NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera, officers responded to the property after receiving a report that someone had been stabbed.
When police arrived, a wounded man inside the residence communicated with officers through a second-floor window. He reportedly told them that his uncle had stabbed him and warned them not to enter the home.
The circumstances involving the other injured people were not immediately clear. Police had not established publicly who was responsible for stabbing each victim.
Rivera said the woman later threw keys out of a third-floor window, allowing officers to enter the residence. Once inside, officers heard screams coming from the third floor and rushed toward a small bedroom, where they encountered three people in a struggle.
Police Say Woman Approached Officers With a Knife
Rivera described the scene inside the bedroom during a press conference early Saturday morning.
“There was one male sitting on the floor, a second male on top of him, and the female who was on top of both of them,” Rivera said.
Officers ordered the three individuals to raise their hands. According to the police account, the two men complied, but the woman pointed with her left hand toward one of the men and refused to raise her right hand.
Police said the woman continued refusing to raise her hands and moved toward officers while holding a knife.
“She was within several feet of the officers, when an officer discharged his firearm, striking her. She fell to the ground. Another officer deployed a taser,” Rivera said.
Officers then moved the woman downstairs and performed lifesaving measures before she was taken for medical treatment. The shooting remains part of the broader investigation into the incident.
Four People Injured and Taken to Hospitals
Police said four people suffered stab wounds during the incident: the woman and three men.
The woman was transported to Jamaica Hospital, where she was reported to be in stable condition. One of the injured men was also taken to Jamaica Hospital.
The other two men were transported to North Shore University Hospital.
Authorities have not publicly detailed the full extent of the men’s injuries or provided a complete account of what led to the confrontation inside the residence.
Police also recovered two serrated kitchen knives at the scene, according to the report.

Investigators are working to establish how the violence began, the roles of the people involved and the events that led officers to discharge a firearm.
Queens Neighbors Describe a Disturbing Scene
The incident shocked residents of the normally quiet residential block, where police activity and emergency vehicles disrupted the neighborhood Friday night.
A nearby resident told the New York Post that a family with teenage children lives in the home where the incident occurred.
Another neighbor, identified as 60-year-old Rosie, described the situation as overwhelming. She said she had returned from visiting her hospitalized husband in Long Island and found that she could not reach her home because police had blocked off the street.
“I went to visit my husband in Long Island in the hospital and came back home and now I can’t get to my house,” Rosie told The Post.
“We all know each other on this block and we say hi,” she added. The neighbor also said she had never witnessed anything like the incident during her 30 years living in the area.
Investigation Continues in Jamaica, Queens
Police had blocked off the street as authorities continued examining the scene. The investigation is expected to clarify the sequence of events inside the residence and determine what led to the stabbing injuries and police shooting.
Several key questions remain unanswered, including who stabbed each of the three men, what triggered the confrontation and whether additional details about the people involved will be released.
Authorities have not provided a complete public account of the events leading up to the initial emergency call.
As investigators continue their work, officials may release further information about the circumstances surrounding the violence and the status of the people who were injured.
