Susan Smigielski Acker

Susan is a 15-year Virginia Peninsula freelance journalist with more than 20 years of writing and editing experience. She also spent time in advertising sales.

Susan’s father was stationed at Naval Weapons Station in the late 1960s and the family lived in Lee Hall for two years.

She, along with her husband, Scott and their two teenage daughters, Charlotte and Julia moved to Newport News more than 15 years ago, when their daughters were babies.

Susan loves the Virginia Peninsula for the green spaces, summer weekly outdoor concerts, the beaches plus rich arts and historic culture.

The carousel along the water in Downtown Hampton may be finding a new home. City Manager Mary Bunting wrote in an email to Virginia Peninsula Media, that the Downtown Hampton Development Partnership (DHDP) has requested that city council consider relocating the carousel to make room for a large public waterfront space. The Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce hosted the newly-elected Newport News Mayor Phillip Jones in a luncheon on Tuesday.
