The Contemporary Arts Network (CAN) offers an array of artist exhibits and ways to connect artists with artists of all genres in May.
The works of Nigerian-American Adewale Alli will be on display at CAN’s Eleanor and Hopps Gallery through June 5.
Titled “Spectrum of Being,” the self-taught visual artist from Baltimore explores the use of material in relation to the simple yet powerful language of color. Through his work, Alli aims to bring to life the raw feelings and emotions reality creates, independent of reality itself. His art-making process is influenced by his mental and emotional states that he expresses through color, form and texture, according to information provided by CAN.

“Spectrum of Being” is a multi-series body of work. The first series, entitled “The Veil”, will be on view at Eleanor and Hopps Gallery through June 5. The series is an exploration of the human condition and the masks we wear to conceal the restlessness within.
In addition, CAN presents CANTemporaries, a six-week Artist Workshop beginning May 1.
CAN also offers a monthly performance-based competition called Next Up. Performers of all genres submit their work samples for a chance to participate. To see Next Up at the CAN on May 15, purchase tickets here.
If interested in performing at May’s Next Up at the CAN, send your submission material to info@thecontemporaryartsnetwork.com.
The Contemporary Arts Network and CAN Talent invite you to join our monthly networking event and discussion called an Artists Salon on May 13 from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. It is for artists, creatives, musicians, writers, photographers, and makers of all kinds.
Email info@thecontemporaryartsnetwork.com for more information.
I simply love seeing the diversity of offerings CAN is bringing our local community. I am excited to see them continue to grow their presence. I highly encourage anyone that has not tried one of their events to do so. The creative energy in the space is palpable and you leave inspired.
