Contemporary Arts Network Works to Help Artists

By Susan Smigielski Acker 1 Comment

The Contemporary Arts Network (CAN), in Newport News, wants to help artists and art lovers connect.

Asa Jackson, director of CAN, said they developed a platform where visual artists can upload, their portfolio and resume. Musicians can also use the website to upload their performances.

“This is for any art professional. It can be a photographer, DJ, or graphic designer,” he said.

Set to be fully operational by this summer website will have a component that will allow people to search for a particular type of artist, Jackson said.

“If someone is looking for an artist to paint a mural, then they can type in muralist and names will appear,” said Operations Director Kira Jackson.

There are plans to have an e-commerce component as well.

In addition, art-related events can be listed.

To have more artists join, those already on the website who recruit others will be given tokens that later can be turned into crypto currency, she said.
