Fly to Washington Dulles from the VA Peninsula

By Susan Smigielski Acker Leave a Comment

The Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport (PHF) will be adding United Airlines service to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) because of a grant from the Small Community Air Service Development Program (SCASDP) through the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The grant totals $847,646. Efforts to secure it had bi-partisan support from Virginia Republican Congressman Rob Wittman and Democratic Congresswoman Elaine Luria, Congressman Bobby Scott and Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner.

This grant announcement followed a series of letters sent by the group to the United States Department of Transportation recommending PHF be awarded the SCASDP grant.

“The Peninsula Airport Commission and its staff are grateful for the tremendous amount of public and private support our community provided us during the application process,” said Michael Giardino, Executive Director of the Peninsula Airport Commission. “We are committed to bringing reliable commercial air service to the Virginia Peninsula.”
