Newport News is known for shipbuilding and for its diverse citizenry. To showcase that diversity, the city will host a free event to celebrate is on Aug. 12, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at City Center at Oyster Point.
Made in Newport News will include live music, entertainment, art experiences, a beer garden, food, and family activities. Local entertainers will perform overlooking the five-acre outdoor fountain throughout the afternoon.

Asa Jackson, Co-Founder and Executive Director of The Contemporary Arts Network (CAN), is developing additional programming to take place in stores along Mariner’s Row in City Center during and after the event.
A pop-up Made in Newport News marketplace will consist of Newport News-based creatives, makers, and brands.
Made in Newport News arts exhibition: A group installation featuring the work of artists from or based in Newport News.
Made in Newport News multimedia op-up: Podcasts and filmed performances (musical, comedy, poetry, etc.) from Newport News-based creatives.
Made in Newport News fashion house (Haus): A fashion pop-up that includes well-known brands from Newport News.
