The outbreak of COVID-19 did not hinder the fundraising efforts of Give Local 757. Instead, it broke a record.
Managed by The Peninsula Community Foundation and sponsored by Bank of America and the Hampton Roads Community Foundation, the day-long online giving campaign raised more than $1.6 million, according to Tammy Flynn, Peninsula Community Foundation’s Director of Philanthropy and lead for the event.

This is an increase of 60 percent compared to last year, she noted. This is the seventh year for such an event that benefits 200 local nonprofits.
This year was particularly important because many nonprofits are on the frontlines of the COVID-19 response. Several nonprofits had to cancel their spring fundraisers, which curtailed donations.
“The services they provide the Hampton Roads community make them critical to our region’s success, so it was amazing to see the outpouring of support this year,” said Flynn.
The Foundation’s CEO, Mike Monteith adds, “The people of the 757 are tremendously generous and caring, especially in times of hardship. We thank everyone who made a gift today to our nonprofit community.”
