Bringing established businesses and creating a more skilled workforce in Virginia, was Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Glenn Youngkin’s focus when he spoke to Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce members Wednesday morning.
“Virginia is headed in the wrong direction and was headed in the wrong direction before the pandemic, Youngkin said at the event held Newport News’ Holiday Inn.

Youngkin said to advance Hampton Roads’ economy, the emphasis should be on the maritime industry, advanced manufacturing and cyber development. He would also like to see the Port of Virginia dredged to handle larger ships.
In the area of education, Youngkin said charter schools and school choice will be on his agenda.
To help small businesses, Youngkin said he would like to have tax credits and a tax holiday.
