Enjoy seafood, barbecue and beverages to support local organizations at the 11th Kiwanis Peninsula Seafood Festival.
Set for Sept. 24 from 2 p.m.-5:30 p.m. at the Hellenic Community Center in Newport News, the outdoor festival features all you can eat food and soft drinks, beer and wine. The music of Slapnation will get the crowd dancing.

New this year is the building of a can art sculpture. Guests are asked to bring non-perishable food to create the sculpture. Following the festival, the food will be donated to the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank, said Jacqueline Wade, Volunteer Festival Director.
Proceeds from the Kiwanis Peninsula Seafood Festival support 40 children’s programs in our area such as Hampton Family YMCA, Kecoughtan Key Club and Peake Childhood Center, she noted.
The cost is $50 per person with the price rising to $60 after Sept. 21. The event frequently sells out. Seating is available and guests are encourage to bring their own seating. No coolers are allowed. A carry-out menu is available, Wade said.
“It’s one of the best festivals on the Peninsula,” she said.
Hope I win. It would be nice to get a free meal and fun.
