By Susan Smigielski Acker Leave a Comment

Spend some time viewing historic Fort Monroe, Norfolk Naval Base and Fort Wool from the deck of The Miss Hampton II Harbor Cruise. The cruise, which just opened the 2020 season, is a three-hour tour that leaves from the downtown Hampton waterfront.

The double-decked boat tour is narrated, presenting the history of the Hampton Roads harbor and Chesapeake Bay. Once underway the boat proceeds out the Hampton River, passing Hampton University and Blackbeard’s Point. During the tour, guests pass historic Fort Monroe and the Old Point Comfort Lighthouse, the oldest continuously operating lighthouse in America. Guests also get an in-depth view of the massive warships at the world’s largest naval installation.

Miss Hampton II passes near Fort Wool, which is not open for public tours. Guests learn how the historic island fortification is being used as a home to more than 20,000 waterfowl displaced by the expansion of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel.

For the safety of all boarded guests and staff, the following protocols have been implemented:
• Sailing capacity has been limited to 50 passengers.
• Temperature checks are required prior to boarding. Any guest with a reading of 100.4 degrees or higher will not be permitted onboard.
• Physical distancing will be enforced on both the upper and lower decks. Lower deck tables will be staggered to permit families up to six to be able to sit together and still be six feet from the nearest table.
• Top deck seating will in groups of three (or more if needed) spaced six feet apart or more.
• All passengers over the age of six are required to wear masks.
• Miss Hampton II crew will regularly wipe down handrails, passenger areas, restrooms, and other high traffic areas during the duration of the three-hour cruise.
• Passengers will not be permitted to visit the wheelhouse.
