Ruritans BBQ Lights Up Victory Monument

By Susan Smigielski Acker 1 Comment

Help keep the lights on at Yorktown Victory Monument and bring home dinner for the family on May 22 when the York Ruritans will be selling their homemade barbecue and coleslaw.

The group will be at Ragan’s Western Auto on George Washington Memorial Highway in Grafton at 9:15 a.m.

Tom Olsavicky, organizer of the event, said the York Ruritans have been paying the light bill the Yorktown Victory Monument since 1981. The average cost is about $600 a year, he added.

The group also provides funds several other York County Services.

The barbecue is made by members, smoked the evening before and the coleslaw is prepared fresh cut, he said.

It sells for $8 a pound or $12 for a kit that makes four sandwiches. The homemade coleslaw is $2 a pint.

Preorders can be made by calling Olsavicky at 757-898-6067. He said choosing not to pre-order, arrive early because they usually sell out by noon.
