Craft beer has been all the rage for the past several years and the Owner of Brew and Bottle Homebrewing Supplies, Taun Bui, has been helping Peninsula home brewers create their best brew for a couple of years.
Bui recently moved the Peninsula’s only homebrew supply business from Oyster Point Shopping Center to Canon Boulevard near City Center in Newport News.

Brewing beer has been a long-time ambition for Bui. Around the time that he retired as an Air Force Master Sergeant, Brew and Bottle’s previous owner was closing the business. Bui said he jumped at the chance to purchase the business.
“The trends just took over with the home brew business and people looking for ingredients to brew their own beer,” he said.
One trend he is currently noticing, is the popularity of hazy IPA beers. Another home brew that is becoming popular is mead.

Brew and Bottle also carries supplies for making wine and hard cider. Many of his customers are looking for more to do with their brews, than just following recipes, he said. That is where Bui’s customer service helps his regular customers. Over time, he gets to know their techniques and what they hope achieve in their brew. For new customers, he discusses with them what they hope to achieve.
During the pandemic, Bui noticed sales increased after people began spending more time at home.
For those interested in learning more about brewing, Bui said there are three brewing clubs in the area. He said the clubs are a great way to connect with fellow brew enthusiasts and learn from one another.
The future for Brew and Bottle holds growth. The Charlottesville native plans to add a small brewery this summer so while customers are shopping for supplies, they can also sip Bui’s custom brews.
