Soundscapes student Yaffa Howell has been offered a full scholarship to attend Elizabeth City State University’s music program. He was one of the very first students in 2009 to start the program, and now he will be the first to study music at the collegiate level.
“If you’re an incoming Soundscapes student, you’ve got to take your instrument seriously, because it can set you up for life,” Howell said.

Since he was in elementary school, he has been using instruments provided by Soundscapes or through the public schools. However, now that he’s moving on to study music in college, Howell needs a professional-level instrument of his own. Instruments of that quality can cost thousands of dollars and would be difficult for many of our families to afford.
That’s why Soundscapes is creating the Yaffa Howell Music Fund, in honor of our first student to study music at the collegiate level. This fund will be used to support students who pursue music beyond high school.
The first purchase will be a clarinet for Yaffa. To learn more, visit Soundscapes.org.
