Train 67 Delayed After Collision with Boat-Towing Trailer in Virginia

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. — An Amtrak train traveling to Williamsburg and Newport News was halted Thursday morning in New Kent County following a collision.

According to the New Kent County Sheriff’s Office, the train struck a vehicle at the Riverside Drive railroad crossing.

Photos sent to 10 On Your Side by a viewer showed the train beside a damaged truck and trailer, which was towing a boat. It appears the train collided with the trailer and boat.

Fortunately, no one was injured. However, the railroad crossing will remain closed for an indefinite period, according to the sheriff’s office.

Amtrak informed passengers that Train 67 would be delayed as crews worked with local authorities. The train resumed its journey just after noon.

The train had originally departed from Boston at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, traveled down the East Coast, and was scheduled to complete its trip in Newport News on Thursday.
