HOOVER, Ala. — A nighttime emergency at an apartment complex in Hoover has turned into a homicide investigation after a 70-year-old woman was found unresponsive in a swimming pool.
Hoover Police Department officers were called to the 2200 block of Little Valley Road shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 3 following a 911 report about a person who was unresponsive in a pool.
When officers arrived, emergency personnel attempted life-saving measures on the woman. Despite those efforts, she could not be revived.
The victim was later identified by the Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office as Terry Lynn Walker.
Authorities have not yet released the official cause or manner of Walker’s death, leaving several key questions unanswered as investigators work to piece together what happened before she was found in the water.
Police Locate Woman Near Scene
As detectives responded to the apartment complex, investigators located a person of interest nearby.
Police identified the woman as 30-year-old Anastasia Tsefia Sudarsana, who investigators determined was an acquaintance of Walker.
According to the Hoover Police Department, evidence discovered during the investigation indicated that a physical confrontation had taken place before Walker’s death.
“Evidence showed a physical struggle occurred just before the victim’s death, which is being investigated as a homicide,” police said in a news release.
The discovery shifted the investigation from an unexplained death to a potential homicide case.
Investigators subsequently presented the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, where a murder warrant was issued for Sudarsana.
Coroner Says Official Cause of Death Has Not Been Released
While police are investigating Walker’s death as a homicide, officials have emphasized that the official cause and manner of death have not yet been determined.
Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Walker lived at the apartment complex where she was found.

“She was found in the pool at the apartments,” Yates said. “It was a pool for the tenants of the apartment complex.”
Yates also confirmed that the coroner’s office has not yet determined exactly how Walker died.
“Her cause of manner and death have yet to be determined,” Yates said, adding that the death is being investigated as a homicide per Hoover Police Department.
The lack of an official cause of death means investigators are still working to establish the sequence of events leading up to Walker being found in the pool.
Suspect Held Without Bond
Following the investigation, Sudarsana was taken into custody and is being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail.
Police have not publicly released extensive details about the alleged physical struggle or explained exactly what investigators believe happened between Sudarsana and Walker before the woman’s death.
Authorities also have not disclosed a possible motive.
The investigation remains active, and additional information could emerge as detectives continue reviewing evidence and working with prosecutors.
For Walker’s family and those who knew her, the circumstances surrounding her death remain unresolved. What began with a 911 call reporting an unresponsive person in an apartment pool has now become a serious homicide investigation involving an acquaintance who is facing a murder warrant.
