HEWLETT, N.Y. — A New York family is mourning the sudden loss of a mother of four after a tragic crash sent her SUV into her family’s swimming pool.
Allison Rahmani, 40, died on Friday, Aug. 21, after losing control of her GMC while in the driveway of a residence on Elinor Road in Hewlett, Nassau County, according to police.
The vehicle reportedly struck a tree and a parked, unoccupied 2006 Honda before ultimately becoming immersed in an inground pool.
Police told that Rahmani was driving in the driveway when she lost control of the SUV, resulting in the devastating chain of events. The crash left the family facing an unimaginable loss just days before loved ones gathered to remember Rahmani at her funeral.
Rahmani Was Able to Call for Help After Crash
According to JNS, citing a source close to the Rahmani family, Allison was initially able to call for help in the immediate aftermath of the crash.
She was removed from the SUV before police arrived at the scene. Officers then performed first aid before she was transported to a local hospital.
Despite those efforts, Rahmani was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Her cause of death has not been publicly released.
The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation, and authorities have not announced what caused Rahmani to lose control of the SUV.
Husband Remembers Loving Mother and Partner
Rahmani’s death has left behind her husband, Matthew Rahmani, and their four children.
According to reports, Allison worked as a teacher and math coordinator at a Modern Orthodox Jewish school in nearby Lawrence. Her husband is the president of a nearby synagogue.
During Allison’s funeral service on Sunday, Aug. 23, Matthew spoke about the woman he had shared his life with and remembered her devotion to their family.
He described Allison as a loving mother and supportive partner who “nurtured” their children “like delicate plants.”
Matthew also reflected on the early years of their marriage, remembering how they had “lived paycheck to paycheck” in their first apartment together and how Allison supported him through difficult moments.
“Every major decision point in our lives, you took me by the hand, you pulled me, you said it would be okay, that you believed in me, in us,’’ he said during Sunday’s funeral service.
His words offered a glimpse into the relationship they shared and the role Allison played in supporting her family throughout their life together.
Sister Remembers Allison as ‘Life of the Party’
Allison’s sister also spoke during Sunday’s funeral, offering another deeply personal remembrance.
She described Allison as “the life of the party” and remembered her passion for education.
Her sister said Allison taught “because she loved to.”
She also highlighted the way Allison viewed children who were struggling, emphasizing her ability to see potential where others might not.
“Where somebody else saw a difficult child, Ali saw potential,” she shared.
The tribute reflected Allison’s work as an educator and the impact she had on students beyond simply teaching them academic lessons.
Husband Shares Emotional Jewish Wedding Prayer
Matthew also referenced the “Eshet Chayil” prayer, a passage traditionally associated with Jewish weddings and often sung by a groom to his bride.
During the funeral, he expressed regret that he had not said the words to Allison on their wedding day.
“I’m sorry I didn’t say that at her wedding. I can’t imagine more fitting words for the woman you were,” he said.
The emotional tribute came as family and friends gathered to say goodbye to a woman remembered not only as a wife and mother, but also as an educator who cared deeply about the people around her.
Crash Investigation Remains Ongoing
Police have confirmed that the crash remains under investigation.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed what caused Allison to lose control of her SUV or why the vehicle traveled through the driveway, struck multiple objects and ultimately entered the swimming pool.
Her death has left her family and community grieving as they remember a mother, wife and educator whose life ended suddenly at the age of 40.
