NEW YORK CITY, NY — A 21-year-old man was stabbed Monday evening just steps from two of Manhattan’s most recognizable landmarks, St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Saks Fifth Avenue, as police search for the attacker.

The stabbing happened around 7:30 p.m. near West 50th Street and Fifth Avenue in Midtown, according to the NYPD.

Police said the victim became involved in a dispute with an unknown individual. What began as an argument quickly escalated into violence when the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked the young man.

The victim suffered stab wounds to his arm and torso, authorities said. The busy Midtown location made the incident particularly alarming, as the area is regularly crowded with pedestrians and visitors.

Suspect Flees Scene in Black BMW

After the stabbing, the alleged attacker quickly left the area. According to police, the suspect got into a black BMW and fled, disappearing from the scene before officers could make an arrest.

The NYPD has not publicly identified the suspect, and authorities have not released additional details about the person being sought.

Investigators are expected to examine available surveillance footage and speak with witnesses as they work to determine exactly what happened during the confrontation. At this time, no arrests have been reported.

The investigation remains active as detectives attempt to identify the person responsible and determine what led to the argument turning violent.

Victim Hospitalized in Stable Condition

Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene after the stabbing was reported. EMS transported the 21-year-old victim to Bellevue Hospital, where he was being treated for his injuries.

Despite being stabbed in two areas of his body, the man was reported to be in stable condition. Authorities have not indicated that his injuries are considered life-threatening at this time.

The investigation will likely focus on the moments immediately before the stabbing, including what sparked the dispute and whether the victim and attacker knew each other.

Attack Comes Hours After Separate Deadly Stabbing

Monday night’s stabbing occurred against the backdrop of another violent incident that happened nearby earlier in the day.

Police said Pamela Cisneros, 49, allegedly attacked a man and woman less than a block away at West 41st Street and Seventh Avenue. That earlier incident ended far more tragically.

According to police, Cisneros allegedly stabbed a 32-year-old woman, killing her, and critically injured a 68-year-old man during a roughly 20-second span.

Officers later shot and killed Cisneros, authorities said.

The two incidents were separate, but their close proximity and timing have drawn attention to a particularly violent day in the Midtown area.

NYPD Investigation Remains Ongoing

Despite the dramatic circumstances, police have not said that Monday night’s stabbing was connected to the earlier attack. For the 21-year-old victim, the incident began with what police described as a dispute and ended with a trip to the hospital.

Investigators are now working to identify the suspect who allegedly fled in the black BMW. Anyone who witnessed the confrontation or has information that could help investigators is encouraged to contact the NYPD.

As detectives continue their investigation, no arrest has been announced, and the circumstances surrounding the argument remain under investigation.

The attack is another reminder of how quickly an argument in a crowded city setting can escalate into serious violence.
