ROCKWALL, Texas — An 8-year-old boy was rushed to a Dallas hospital Saturday after he was reportedly struck and run over by his grandfather in the driveway of a home, according to the Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the 1000 block of Smith Acres Drive at approximately 1:45 p.m. after receiving a report about the incident.

When deputies arrived, they were reportedly told that the boy’s grandfather had been using a vehicle in the driveway when the incident occurred.

The child suffered serious injuries to his midsection, prompting authorities to arrange an emergency medical evacuation. The circumstances surrounding exactly how the boy came to be struck remain under investigation.

Child Airlifted to Dallas Hospital

Because of the severity of the boy’s injuries, emergency responders determined that he needed to be transported to a medical facility capable of providing specialized pediatric care.

The 8-year-old was taken by Care-Flite helicopter to Children’s Medical Center Dallas for treatment.

The Fate Fire Department assisted with the request for the medical helicopter as emergency crews worked to get the injured child to the hospital as quickly as possible.

Authorities have not released an update on the boy’s condition following his arrival at the Dallas medical center.

The decision to airlift him underscores the seriousness of the injuries reported at the scene, although officials have not provided additional medical details.

Grandfather Was Using Vehicle in Driveway

According to the Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office, the grandfather was using a car in the driveway when the incident happened. At this stage, officials have not publicly explained the sequence of events that led to the child being struck.
