WASHINGTON — Parents are being warned about more than 15,000 children’s squishy toys after federal regulators determined that water beads inside the products could pose a potentially life-threatening hazard if swallowed.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission said the recalls involve Squeezy Dumplings from GIHNJSI and Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys from OKK Trading.
Both products contain water beads that can expand inside a child’s body after ingestion. The toys also violate mandatory federal safety requirements because the beads can grow beyond the size permitted under federal regulations.
While no injuries have been reported in connection with the recalled products, the CPSC is urging consumers to take the warnings seriously and immediately stop allowing children to use the toys.
Water Beads Can Create Serious Internal Hazards
The concern centers on the small water beads contained inside the squishy toys. According to the CPSC, if a child swallows one of the beads, it can expand inside the body and create potentially dangerous complications.
“If a water bead is ingested, it can pose ingestion, choking, and intestinal obstruction hazards inside a child’s body, resulting in severe discomfort, vomiting, dehydration and a risk of death to a child,” the commission said.
Because the beads may increase significantly in size after being exposed to liquid, a swallowed bead can become particularly dangerous inside a young child’s digestive system.
Federal regulators are therefore warning parents and caregivers not to assume the toys are safe simply because the beads are contained inside the squishy products.
About 8,000 Squeezy Dumplings Recalled
One of the recalls covers approximately 8,000 Squeezy Dumplings from GIHNJSI. The toys were sold through Amazon between May and June for approximately $20.
The products feature the phrases “SQUEEZY DUMPLINGS” and “SQUEEZE ME” on their labels.
The toys are translucent and round, with cartoon-style faces, glitter-like particles and water beads inside. They were sold in tan plastic containers designed to resemble bamboo steamers.
Parents who may have purchased one of these products should check their children’s toys and packaging carefully before allowing continued use.
Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys Also Recalled
Approximately 7,200 Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys are also included in the recall. According to the CPSC, the toys were sold through third-party retailers nationwide from May through August. The front of the packaging is marked “Rainbow MYSTERY” and “SUGAR EDITION.”
Like the Squeezy Dumplings, these toys are translucent squeeze products with cartoon faces, glitter-like particles and water beads inside.
The similar appearance and construction mean parents should pay close attention to the product names and packaging when checking whether a toy in their home is affected.
What Parents Should Do With Recalled Toys
Consumers who have one of the recalled products should immediately stop using it.
The CPSC says consumers seeking a refund should write “RECALLED” on both the toy and its container, dispose of the product and email a photograph to the appropriate company.
Parents should also keep the recalled toys away from children while following the disposal and refund process.
The federal warning is particularly important for households with young children, who may be more likely to put small objects or pieces of toys into their mouths.
CPSC Warns About Another Squishy Bun Toy
The CPSC has also issued a warning involving approximately 106 Squishy Bun Toys from Ivyapingdianpu.
Those products also contain water beads and violate mandatory toy safety standards. However, the retailer has not agreed to conduct a recall or provide a remedy, despite receiving a Notice of Violation, according to the commission.
The affected toys have “SQUISHY BUN” and “Rainbow MYSTERY” printed on the front of a removable tag. They were sold online through Amazon in June 2026 and may also have been available through third-party sellers and other websites.
The CPSC is telling consumers to immediately stop using those toys and dispose of them as well.
No Injuries Reported as Parents Receive Warning
So far, no injuries have been reported involving the recalled or warned-about products. Still, federal officials are urging consumers to act quickly because of the potential severity of a water bead ingestion.
Anyone whose child is injured by one of the affected Squishy Bun toys, or anyone who notices a defect, is encouraged to contact the CPSC.
