Vail, Arizona — A 49-year-old Arizona man is facing two counts of second-degree murder after authorities accused him of killing his pregnant wife and their unborn child at their home in Vail. Investigators say the 39-year-old woman was found dead in the garage with serious injuries, while the couple’s two young children were discovered unharmed inside the house.

Joseph Jay Clark was taken into custody after deputies responded to a domestic disturbance on October 9, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office. He is accused of killing his wife, Noelle Clark, and their unborn child.

The case has drawn attention to the disturbing details described in court documents, including allegations of a stabbing, possible evidence that the victim was run over, and a knife recovered from inside the home.

Deputies Respond to Domestic Disturbance in Vail

According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 6:30 p.m. on October 9 to a residence in the 17000 block of South Ridgerunner Drive in Vail.

When first responders arrived, they saw Joseph Clark leaving the home and detained him without incident.

Deputies subsequently searched the property and discovered Noelle Clark with what the initial sheriff’s office announcement described as an apparent gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The couple’s two children, ages 3 and 4, were found unharmed inside the home.

Authorities later placed the children in the custody of the Arizona Department of Child Safety, according to reports from local media.

Criminal Complaint Describes Different Injuries

According to the report, Noelle Clark was found beneath a blanket in the garage with signs of head trauma and a deep chest wound consistent with stabbing. The complaint also reportedly noted that she showed obvious signs of pregnancy.

The victim had bloody tire marks on her arm, which investigators allegedly believed indicated that she had been run over. Investigators also recovered a bloody knife from the children’s bedroom, according to the complaint.

The available reports do not explain the discrepancy between the sheriff’s office’s initial description of an apparent gunshot wound and the injuries detailed in the subsequent criminal complaint.

Investigators reportedly found evidence suggesting that Joseph Clark may have considered disposing of his wife’s remains. The full circumstances surrounding that allegation have not been established in court.

Husband Allegedly Claimed He Had Been Tortured

During the investigation, Joseph Clark allegedly told deputies that he had been subjected to electric shocks by his wife over a period of several years.

According to the reported account, he said he had been tortured and made the statement, “I was shocked, that’s what caused [this],” referring to the incident.

However, deputies reportedly found no injuries or physical signs of torture on Clark.

The statements attributed to him form part of the investigation, but authorities have not established the alleged circumstances he described as fact. Investigators continue to examine the evidence surrounding the deaths and the events leading up to the emergency call.

Two Murder Charges and a $1 Million Bond

Joseph Clark was charged with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Noelle Clark and their unborn child, according to authorities.

He appeared in court for an initial hearing on October 10. A judge ordered him held on a $1 million bond, according to court records cited in reports.

Clark was scheduled to return to court on October 20 for another hearing. The charges represent allegations, and Clark is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Investigation Leaves Questions About What Happened

The case has raised several questions about the sequence of events inside the home, the injuries described in the criminal complaint and the evidence investigators collected.

Authorities have not publicly clarified the difference between the initial report of a possible gunshot wound and the later description of a chest wound consistent with stabbing.

The allegations involving the bloody knife and tire marks may also become important as investigators work to establish what happened before deputies arrived.

Meanwhile, the couple’s two young children were found physically unharmed, but their placement with Arizona child protection authorities underscores the family impact of the case.

Further court proceedings are expected to provide additional information as the criminal case moves forward.
