DALLAS, Texas — A serious crash involving a DART train and a passenger vehicle left one driver critically injured Friday evening near Buckner Station in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas.
The collision happened at around 6:40 p.m. near Jim Miller Road and C.F. Hawn Freeway, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue. Buckner Station is the southeastern terminus of DART’s Green Line.
The crash quickly brought emergency crews to the area as responders worked to reach the driver of the passenger vehicle.
According to Dallas Fire-Rescue, a rescue unit actually came upon the crash as it was happening and immediately called in the incident.
Driver Trapped Inside Vehicle After Collision
The force of the collision left the driver trapped inside the passenger vehicle, prompting a heavy rescue response.
However, the first arriving fire crew was able to reach the vehicle and get the driver out before the additional heavy rescue response was needed.
Dallas Fire-Rescue said the driver was successfully removed from the vehicle and transported to a hospital.
The driver’s condition was listed as critical following the crash.
The circumstances surrounding the driver’s injuries and the extent of the damage to the vehicle have not been fully released.
DART Train Traffic Temporarily Held
The crash also temporarily affected train operations in the area as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
DART spokesperson Erin Myers said train traffic was temporarily held until the crash scene was cleared.
Buckner Station is served by DART’s Green Line, which runs between North Carrollton/Frankford Station and Buckner Station.
At the time of the initial reports, DART’s alert information did not show any ongoing route impacts.
The temporary hold allowed emergency personnel to work safely around the collision while the injured driver was removed and transported for medical treatment.
DART Police Investigate Cause of Crash
The cause of the collision remains unclear.
DART Police are investigating what led the passenger vehicle to collide with the train. Officials have not yet released additional details explaining what happened immediately before the crash.
It is also not clear from the initial information whether any other people were injured in the collision.
Investigators are expected to examine the vehicle, train and surrounding area as they work to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.
The investigation could also help establish whether traffic conditions, driver actions or another factor played a role.
Emergency Crews Respond Quickly
The fact that a Dallas Fire-Rescue rescue unit arrived as the collision occurred meant emergency personnel were already close by when the driver needed help.
Crews quickly assessed the situation and worked to free the person trapped inside the vehicle. The driver was then taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to officials.
As the investigation continues, authorities have not announced additional details about the driver’s identity or provided an updated condition.
For now, the focus remains on the ongoing investigation and understanding exactly how the vehicle ended up in the path of the DART train.
