ORLANDO, Fla. — A routine delivery at an Orlando warehouse allegedly turned into a violent confrontation after a truck driver arrived hours late with a payload and became involved in an argument with an employee, according to authorities.
The shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 26 at a warehouse in the 1700 block of Boice Pond Road, according to a probable cause arrest affidavit.
Witnesses told deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office that they heard two men arguing at the warehouse. One of the men was later identified as 67-year-old David Crump, who authorities say was armed with a gun.
The confrontation quickly escalated.
According to investigators, the warehouse employee punched Crump in the face during the argument. Crump allegedly responded by firing at least one shot, striking the worker in the arm.
Driver Allegedly Choked Worker and Threatened His Life
Investigators say surveillance video captured an even more disturbing part of the confrontation. The video allegedly showed Crump choking the warehouse employee while yelling, “I’ll kill you.”
The worker eventually ran away, but authorities say Crump chased him before returning to his truck and leaving the property.
Investigators later spoke with the victim, who was unable to identify Crump as the person who shot him. However, he provided detectives with his account of what led to the confrontation. The victim reportedly told authorities that he was working when Crump arrived hours late for his scheduled dropoff.
Because the employee was already handling other clients who were dropping off payloads, he told Crump that he would have to wait.
That response allegedly angered the truck driver.
Worker Says Driver Grabbed His Neck and Phone
According to the affidavit, the warehouse employee said Crump walked back toward his truck before returning with a firearm. The victim said he began recording Crump on his cellphone as the confrontation continued.
Authorities allege that Crump then grabbed the worker by the neck and took hold of his phone. The employee tried to escape, and that’s when Crump allegedly raised the firearm and fired.
The bullet struck the victim in the arm. Paramedics transported the injured worker to a hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, Crump had already left the warehouse in his truck.
GPS Tracking Leads Deputies to Georgia
After leaving the scene, Crump reportedly contacted his bosses at Road Dog Logistics and told them there had been an “incident.” According to investigators, however, he did not provide his employers with details about what had allegedly happened.
The company was able to track the truck using its onboard GPS system. The tracking information showed the vehicle traveling through Jacksonville and into Georgia. That information helped authorities locate the truck.
Deputies with the Glynn County Sheriff’s Office eventually spotted the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Crump was taken into custody during the stop.
Investigators said Crump appeared to be the same person shown in the surveillance video. They also noted that he was wearing the same necklace visible in the video, adding another detail connecting him to the incident.
Truck Driver Faces Attempted Murder Charge
Crump was later extradited to the Orange County Jail, where authorities say he is being held without bond. He has been charged with second-degree attempted murder in connection with the shooting.
A public defender has been appointed to represent him, and his next court hearing is scheduled for Thursday. The case remains ongoing, and the allegations against Crump have not been proven in court.
For the warehouse employee, the confrontation ended with a gunshot wound but fortunately did not result in life-threatening injuries. For investigators, the focus now turns to the evidence gathered at the warehouse, including witness accounts, surveillance footage and the vehicle’s GPS history.
What began as a dispute over a late delivery ultimately became a violent confrontation that crossed state lines before authorities were able to locate and arrest the driver.
