OHIO — Construction sites are usually filled with heavy machinery, loud equipment and workers focused on getting the job done. But one Ohio construction crew recently discovered an unexpected visitor who quickly became the most adorable member of the team.
An orange kitten named Sue was found inside a Komatsu excavator after workers heard her crying while she moved around inside the massive piece of equipment.
The tiny feline’s unexpected appearance quickly turned into a rescue mission — and eventually, a new home and future job for the kitten.
Chase Guello, an operating supervisor with Riverreach Construction, documented Sue’s rescue through a series of videos posted to social media last month.
The videos followed the kitten from her frightening discovery inside the excavator to her eventual transition into a much safer environment.
Workers Rescue Kitten From Construction Equipment
Finding a kitten inside a large excavator could have been a dangerous situation, especially with heavy construction equipment operating around the site.
Sue was heard crying from inside the Komatsu excavator, alerting workers to her presence.
Guello continued sharing updates about the kitten after she was safely removed. Rather than simply finding Sue temporary shelter and moving on, the crew became invested in making sure she had somewhere safe to go.
The kitten was taken to a friend of Guello’s mother, who helped foster Sue while arrangements were made for her longer-term home.
For a kitten that had started her journey hidden inside heavy machinery, it was a major change of circumstances.
Sue Gets a New Home With the Construction Crew
Sue’s rescue story didn’t end with her foster placement.
According to Guello, the kitten was eventually going to live with the shop mechanic at Riverreach Construction. Until Sue is old enough to officially take on her new role, she will spend time between the mechanic’s home and workplace.
Her eventual destination? Becoming the crew’s very own shop cat.
That means Sue could eventually have a permanent place around the construction shop, turning her from an unexpected rescue into a familiar face for the workers.
The plan gives Sue time to grow while remaining close to the people who helped rescue her.
Komatsu Sends Sue Her Own Safety Gear
Sue’s story also caught the attention of Komatsu, the company that manufactures the construction equipment involved in the rescue.
The company sent Guello some Komatsu merchandise for the kitten, including an appropriately tiny safety vest and hard hat.
The miniature construction gear transformed Sue into something of an honorary construction worker.
For the crew, the little orange kitten had gone from hiding inside an excavator to becoming a symbol of the unexpected moments that can happen on a construction site.
And judging by her new safety gear, Sue appears to be ready for her future role.
From Rescue Mission to Shop Cat
What began with workers hearing a tiny kitten crying inside a giant excavator has turned into a heartwarming adoption story.
Sue now has a foster caregiver, a future home and a planned job waiting for her at the construction shop.
Her journey also shows how a simple discovery at a busy worksite can bring an entire crew together around an animal in need.
Instead of remaining a frightened kitten hidden inside heavy machinery, Sue is now on track to become the shop cat — complete with her own hard hat and safety vest.
For the Riverreach Construction crew, their newest team member may be the smallest worker they’ve ever had, but she has already made a big impression.
