APPLETON, Wis. — A routine Sunday morning in an Appleton neighborhood turned into a deadly investigation after a neighbor reported seeing a man with a gun enter a home and hearing a rapid burst of gunfire.
According to a criminal complaint, police were called to the Juedes residence at about 7:35 a.m. on Nov. 24, 2024, following a report of a disturbance involving a weapon.
The neighbor told dispatchers that a white BMW had left the property before returning for a short time and then leaving again.
When officers arrived at the home, they reportedly smelled gunpowder. Inside a bedroom, they found 74-year-old Daniel Juedes Sr. dead on the floor.
Investigators said Daniel had several wounds to his back as well as a gunshot wound to his left temple.
An autopsy later determined that he had been shot 15 times.
Neighbor Describes Sudden Burst of Gunfire
The neighbor who called police provided investigators with a detailed account of what he allegedly witnessed.
According to the complaint, he saw a man get out of a white BMW while carrying a firearm. The man allegedly walked toward the front door, kicked it down and entered the home.
The neighbor said he could hear yelling from inside before hearing approximately 10 to 12 gunshots within about five seconds. The suspect then allegedly left the house.
The neighbor told investigators that the firearm appeared to be ready to fire again, leading him to believe the man had emptied the magazine during the attack.
But the incident allegedly did not end there.
The witness said the man drove away in the BMW, only to return to the property a short time later. He allegedly went back inside the home before rushing out again and driving away.
That second visit would later become a key part of the investigation.
Police Identify Gregory Juedes as Suspect
Investigators initially learned from the neighbor that Daniel Juedes had a son who lived with him, but they were told that son was away on a hunting trip that day.
Police eventually discovered that Daniel had another son: Gregory Juedes, 47. Only minutes after investigators learned about the white BMW and the description of its driver, an officer reportedly spotted the vehicle.
The driver was wearing clothing matching what the neighbor had described.
Police attempted to stop the BMW, and the driver allegedly activated his hazard lights as though he intended to pull over. Instead, authorities say he continued onto the highway, leading officers on a high-speed pursuit.
An officer eventually used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle.
According to the complaint, Gregory Juedes then fled on foot before several law enforcement officers subdued him. Authorities also allege that he attempted to reach for a lieutenant’s weapon during the confrontation.
A Canik TP9SFx firearm was later found in Juedes’ vehicle, according to investigators.

Chilling Statements Allegedly Made in Ambulance
After his arrest, Juedes was taken to a hospital for medical treatment. According to the criminal complaint, he allegedly made several unsolicited statements while being transported in an ambulance.
Police say he told them, “I think I got him with every round. And then one in the back of the head for good measure.”
He allegedly followed that statement by saying he had returned to the home and kicked his father “to make sure he was down for the count.” Those alleged statements could become significant evidence as the case moves toward trial.
Gregory Juedes Ordered to Face Trial
Juedes is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in connection with his father’s death. He also faces charges of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer in a vehicle and resisting or obstructing an officer.
His case is now headed toward trial. His pretrial hearing is scheduled for Jan. 22, 2027, followed by a trial date of Feb. 7, 2027. The allegations remain accusations, and Juedes is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
