Irvine, CA — Taco Bell is preparing for a major expansion of its headquarters footprint, with the fast-food giant planning to leave its current office and move into a 254,000-square-foot campus in Irvine by 2028.
The company currently operates from a roughly 184,000-square-foot headquarters, meaning the new location will give Taco Bell significantly more room as it continues growing its brand.
The move to Alton HQ is also expected to become Orange County’s largest office lease in five years, underscoring the scale of the company’s long-term commitment to Irvine.
Taco Bell has called Irvine home for more than 40 years, making the new campus another chapter in the chain’s longstanding relationship with the Southern California city.
New campus will bring Taco Bell and Habit together
The new headquarters campus will be shared by Taco Bell and Habit Burger & Grill, another restaurant brand owned by Yum! Brands.
Both companies will be headquartered near the Irvine Spectrum Center, giving their teams a larger shared base for operations and collaboration.
In a joint statement, Taco Bell Chief Executive Sean Tresvant and Habit Burger & Grill Chief Executive Shannon Hennessy described the new Irvine campus as an investment in their employees and future growth.
The executives said the additional space would give teams more room to collaborate and create, while reinforcing the companies’ long-term commitment to Irvine and the broader Orange County community.
The planned move is expected to be completed by 2028.
Alton HQ will offer more room for employees
The Alton HQ property is owned by Irvine Company Office Properties, which purchased the site from Canon U.S.A. for $120 million in 2022, according to CoStar.
The new Taco Bell and Habit campus will span three buildings and have enough space for approximately 1,100 employees.
That represents an increase from the roughly 970 people the companies can currently accommodate at the existing headquarters.
Beyond simply adding office space, the new campus is being designed with features aimed at supporting employees and the development of new restaurant products.
Plans include a fitness center, café, outdoor work areas and kitchen space where teams can develop and test new menu items.
Roger DeWames, president of Irvine Company Office Properties, said working with Taco Bell and Habit to customize the property around their needs reflects the company’s commitment to creating suitable workplace environments.
Taco Bell continues its long Irvine connection
The headquarters move comes as Taco Bell continues to expand a brand that has deep roots in Southern California. The company traces its beginnings to Downey, California, where founder Glen Bell established Taco Bell in 1962.
After more than six decades of growth, the chain has become one of the most recognizable names in fast food, while Irvine has remained an important part of its corporate identity for decades.
Taco Bell generated approximately $18 billion in sales last year, representing an increase of about 13% from the previous year, according to the information provided.
Meanwhile, Habit Burger & Grill recorded approximately $706 million in sales in 2025.
What the new headquarters means for Irvine
The planned headquarters relocation represents more than a change of address for Taco Bell. The larger campus is expected to provide additional capacity for employees while giving the company dedicated spaces for collaboration, food development and other corporate activities.
For Irvine, the deal also reinforces the city’s position as a major corporate hub in Orange County.
With the move expected by 2028, Taco Bell and Habit Burger & Grill will have a significantly larger workplace near one of the region’s major shopping and entertainment destinations.
After more than four decades in Irvine, Taco Bell appears ready to put down an even bigger footprint in the city it has long called home.
