Brooklyn, New York — A 24-year-old man was fatally shot during a midday shooting inside a Brooklyn park Tuesday afternoon, sending emergency responders rushing to the scene as police began investigating the deadly gunfire.
Jayde Browne, a Brownsville resident, was shot in the torso shortly after 2 p.m. near Cathedral Place, next to McLaughlin Park in downtown Brooklyn, according to police.
The shooting happened during the afternoon, when the area would normally have been active with pedestrians and people passing through the neighborhood.
Victim Rushed to Hospital After Shooting
Emergency medical crews responded after Browne was found suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso. EMS transported him in critical condition to Methodist Hospital, where doctors attempted to save his life. Despite those efforts, Browne later died from his injuries, authorities said.
Police identified Browne as the victim Tuesday night as investigators continued working to determine what led to the shooting and who was responsible.
The circumstances surrounding the gunfire remained under investigation.
Shooting Happened Near McLaughlin Park
The deadly incident occurred near McLaughlin Park in downtown Brooklyn, close to Cathedral Place.

Sources said Browne had one prior arrest for criminal possession of a weapon in 2025.
