LAS VEGAS, Nev. — A confrontation inside a west Las Vegas apartment ended in a devastating triple killing after a 29-year-old man allegedly shot his girlfriend and her two children, then turned himself in to police later that evening.

Juan Orona told officers that he had confronted his girlfriend, Nohani Flores-Osuna, after seeing her vehicle near the car of her former boyfriend earlier Tuesday.

According to an arrest report obtained by local media, Orona told police that Flores-Osuna admitted she had been unfaithful and made a comment about her former boyfriend being better in bed.

Orona allegedly told investigators that he then “blacked out.”

The victims were identified as Flores-Osuna, her 16-year-old daughter Maiya, and her young son Noah, who was in kindergarten.

Man Claims He ‘Blacked Out’ During Shooting

According to the arrest report, Orona said he later found himself inside the apartment bathroom holding his 9mm Glock handgun.

He claimed that Flores-Osuna and the children were either yelling at him or moving toward him during the period he described as a blackout.

Orona reportedly told police he could not remember which victim he shot first or why. However, authorities said he did not deny shooting the three victims.

The shooting occurred at an apartment complex on O’Bannon Drive near the intersection of Sahara Avenue and Decatur Boulevard. When officers arrived, they forced their way into the apartment and discovered all three victims dead.

Orona Turns Himself In After Deadly Rampage

Shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday, Orona turned himself in to authorities. He had a gunshot wound to his abdomen when he arrived, although the arrest report did not establish whether the injury was self-inflicted.

Orona reportedly told dispatchers that the shooting had happened inside the apartment where he had been staying with the family. He also told authorities that the gun was inside a backpack in his vehicle.

He was transported to Sunrise Hospital for treatment of his gunshot wound. Before surrendering, Orona reportedly told his father that he had hurt his girlfriend and her children.

His father then accompanied Orona and Orona’s brother as he surrendered to authorities.

Couple Had Been Dating for Several Months

Investigators said Orona had been dating Flores-Osuna for approximately three to six months. He had also reportedly helped pay rent for the apartment where the family lived and where the killings occurred.

According to the arrest report, Orona told investigators that he knew he needed to surrender and be held accountable for what had happened.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain a major focus of the investigation, including what happened during the confrontation and what Orona meant by his claim that he had “blacked out.”

Authorities will ultimately have to establish the events that led to the deaths of Flores-Osuna and her two children.

Prosecutors File Multiple Serious Charges

Orona is currently facing three counts of open murder with a deadly weapon. He is also charged with 10 counts of firing a gun into an occupied structure, according to court records.

At a Thursday court hearing, Orona’s court-appointed public defender requested additional time before a bail decision so the defense could review the case.

Orona remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center. He is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 9.

Investigation Into Las Vegas Killings Continues

The deaths of Flores-Osuna and her two children have left investigators working to reconstruct the moments before the shooting and determine exactly what happened inside the apartment.

While Orona has provided police with his account of the confrontation, his claim that he experienced a blackout and could not remember key details will likely be examined as the criminal case moves forward.

The victims’ deaths have transformed what was reportedly a domestic confrontation into a case involving three murder charges and multiple firearms allegations.

For the families involved, the investigation now centers on understanding how a confrontation between two adults ended with the deaths of a mother and her two children.
