Miami, Florida — A 24-year-old woman has been arrested after a man told police that two watches, including a Rolex valued at $37,000, disappeared from his home following a Tinder date. The woman has denied stealing the watches and told investigators that she had been drugged and could not remember what happened afterward, according to an arrest affidavit.
Alexia Jocelyn Flores was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 23, on one count of second-degree grand theft, according to jail records. The arrest stemmed from an alleged theft reported after Flores and the man met through the dating app and spent several hours together.
Tinder Date Ends at Miami Apartment
According to the arrest affidavit, Flores and the man connected through Tinder before meeting for dinner on Sept. 19.
After dinner, the pair returned to the man’s Miami home at approximately 11:21 p.m. The affidavit alleges that they spent several hours drinking together inside the residence. At some point during the night, the man asked Flores to leave.
The man told investigators that Flores went into the bedroom and bathroom to change clothes while he remained on the living room couch.
He said he eventually escorted Flores to the elevator at about 2:43 a.m. After she left, the man returned to his residence and discovered that two watches were allegedly missing from his bedside table.
One of the watches was reportedly a Rolex valued at approximately $37,000.
Police Say Victim Did Not See Watches Being Taken
The allegations against Flores are based on the man’s account and the subsequent police investigation. The affidavit specifically states:
“The victim did not see the defendant take the watches,” the affidavit reads.
The man nevertheless reported the watches missing and contacted authorities. Investigators later reviewed surveillance footage from the apartment building as part of their investigation.
According to the affidavit, investigators observed Flores and the alleged victim entering the apartment building. Flores was later seen leaving the building by herself after obtaining surveillance footage from the property.
Police arrested Flores three days after the alleged theft.
Flores Denies Taking the Watches
Following her arrest, Flores was interviewed at Miami Police headquarters. According to the affidavit, Flores denied taking the watches.
She also provided investigators with her explanation for why she could not account for what happened after the night at the apartment. Flores told authorities “she had been drugged and could not recall what happened afterward,” according to the affidavit.
Her statement is part of the police account contained in the arrest documents, while the allegation that she took the watches remains contested.
Woman Charged With Grand Theft
Flores was subsequently transported to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center following her arrest. She faces one count of second-degree grand theft in connection with the alleged disappearance of the watches.
The value of the Rolex is central to the case, with police documents identifying it as worth approximately $37,000. Flores pleaded not guilty on Thursday, Sept. 24, according to a written plea.
The criminal charge represents an allegation, and the arrest itself does not establish that Flores stole the watches. The case will now proceed through the legal system, where prosecutors will have to establish their allegations in court.
Investigation Continues After Dating-App Meeting
The case highlights how a routine meeting between two people who connected through a dating app quickly turned into a criminal investigation.
According to the affidavit, the pair had dinner together before returning to the man’s residence, where they spent several hours drinking. Hours later, Flores left the building, and the man reported that the watches were missing from his bedside table.
Police subsequently investigated the alleged theft, reviewed apartment surveillance and interviewed Flores before making the arrest.
Flores has denied taking the watches and has pleaded not guilty as the case moves forward.
The allegations, including the circumstances surrounding the missing Rolex and second watch, will ultimately be addressed through the court process.
